Monitoring, Analysis, and Reports

We begin a new Power Factor project after first providing each customer with a free estimate of PF charges, estimated project pricing, and other related information. We follow up with a site visit to monitor the facility power system, perform an engineering analysis, and issue a report. Several design considerations need to be determined during this process, including:

  • The total Kilovars needed to avoid the utility Power Factor penalty
  • Voltage level where the capacitor bank is installed
  • Load profile to decide fixed versus automatic bank
  • If automatic, the number and Kilovar size of capacitor steps
  • Measuring harmonics to determine if a filtered bank is required
  • Accessories - main breaker or switch, ground switch, PF controller, indication, and protective relaying
